The FSM Telecommunications Corporation (FSMTC) provides services on more than thirty islands separated by nearly 2,700 kilometres of ocean. Main population centres on Pohnpei, Chuuk, Yap, and Kosrae have fixed line, mobile, cable TV, and broadband networks. In 2015 FSMTC supported around 17,000 mobile subscribers and 24,000 Internet subscribers.

The island of Pohnpei is connected to Guam via the HANTRU1 submarine fibre cable. Other islands connect via satellite. Chuuk has connected via O3b satellite to an earth station in Hawaii since 2015.

Coinciding with the arrival of the SEA-US cable in Guam, Yap and Palau will gain submarine fibre via a grant from the International Development Association. The cable will be treated as a branch of SEA-US, and telcos will likely purchase capacity directly to the United States on the cable.
