Australia - Papua New Guinea Cable 2
The A-PNG2 Cable is a re-purposing of PacRim, much like the ASH Cable which came a few years later. The total length of the cable from Sydney to Port Moresby is around 3,220 km. It has two pairs of optical fibre, each running at E5, or 560 Mbps, for a total of 1.12 Gbps of capacity. Signal repeaters are electrical, not optical, so there's no practical way to increase the capacity of the cable.
