Docomo Pacific
Docomo Pacific is a full service telecommunications provider and cable operator based in Guam.
Carrier Profile:
NTT Docomo entered Guam through acquisitions of GuamCell, Saipancell, and HafaTEL in 2006. In 2013 they acquired Marianas CableVision, securing them an extensive fibre network and rights as the incumbent cable provider to install further communications cables.
Docomo’s cable network runs DOCSIS3, and it’s their primary method of providing residential broadband services. Their 3g/4g cellular offerings are based on a Nokia Siemens access network, and they provide inbound roaming services to overseas operators. An October 2015 press release from Ciena discusses Docomo’s recent implementation of a 200gbps DWDM system.
From a Public Utilities standpoint, Docomo is certified as Guam Telecom LLC and is a CLEC. They operate aerial & buried fibre networks & connect three cable landing stations. PUC filings indicate they provide fibre services to Guam Police and Guam Fire Department. Guam Power Authority also use Docomo’s metro ethernet services to link substations and power generation sites.
In a June 2015 interview with Paul Carlson and John Rhee, Docomo Pacific stated they have Points of Presence California and Korea, and plans to build in Japan and Hong Kong.
RIPE Atlas probes 329, 22639, and 22751 show Docomo has local IP interconnections with IT&E and GTA, but iConnect and PDS are reached via transit links in California.
In Docomo won a bid to supply WAN services to the Guam Dept of Education.
In June 2017 Docomo commissioned a new submarine cable between Guam and the Commonwealth of the Northern Marianas, called Atisa.
