GTA Teleguam

GTA is the incumbent telecommunications operator in Guam.

Carrier Profile:

GTA was formerly known as the Guam Telephone Authority. From a regulatory standpoint it is known as Teleguam holdings. GTA is the ILEC in Guam, and as such is present at all telephone exchanges. GTA has DWDM backbone linking the island’s four Cable Landing Stations.

GTA is owned by three private individuals via a series of shell companies. Throughout 2015 they were negotiating a sale to an American holding company owned by Indonesia’s Telekomunikasi Indonesia Tbk. The deal fell through in June 2016.

GTA have implemented ADSL2+, 10Gbps Ethernet backhaul, and FTTH using buried and aerial fibre in limited trials. In 2010 they launched a data centre with VSNL, who are now known as Tata Communications. It’s likely this data centre, which is also home to GTA’s NOC, is located at the Tata Piti Cable Landing Station.

GTA is the landing party for RTI's SEA-US cable, which came into service in August 2017. GTA’s failed acquirer Telekomunikasi Indonesia is the SEA-US landing partner for Indonesia.

In an interview with GTA on the 6th of May 2015, VP Roland Certeza claimed capacity on a number of submarine cables, including AJC, AAG, and TGN-TP.
