AJC: Australia Japan Cable

The Australia Japan Cable was commissioned in 2001 with an initial capacity of 320 Gbps and an expected lifespan of 15 years. It's 12,500 km long, cost $520m to build, and was initially owned by a consortium including Japan Telecom, Telstra, and Teleglobe. It was most recently upgraded in 2018, when its capacity was increased to 10 Terabits per second. Its unique design includes two land-linked cable landing stations in each country, eliminating some of the risk of cable breakage disrupting communications.
