The Asia America Gateway Cable (AAG) is a $554m consortium cable that was ready for service in 2010. Its 16 owners include operators in each of the countries it lands in, plus Pacific carriers TNZI and Telstra. It has two fibre pairs and can carry up to 96 wavelengths per pair. It was initially commissioned with 500 Gbps of capacity, but bas been upgraded several times, including in 2014 when its DWDM wave speed was increased to 100 Gbps. This provides for a theoretical maximum of nearly 20 terabits per second.
