PacRim Cable System
PacRim Cable System
The PacRIM system was the first fibre optic cable system to connect the US to Australasia. It had three sections: PacRim East, Tasman 2, and PacRim West. The Eastern section was a 7,700 km link between Hawaii and New Zealand that was owned by a 34 carrier consortium led by MCI. It went into service in March 1993 and was operated until 2007. The middle section, Tasman 2, linked Auckland and Sydney. The Western section, a 7,062km cable linking Sydney and Guam, went into service in 1995 and was operated until 2005.
Parts of the decommissioned PacRim East cable were used to construct ASH Cable. Parts of the decommissioned PacRim West cable were used to construct A-PNG2.
