The Kumul Submarine Cable is a domestic system inside Papua New Guinea that connects the country's provinces via sea route, completed in April 2019. It's the first fibre optic connection ever between the northern and southern parts of the country. The $200m cable was funded by China's Exim Bank and built by Huawei Marine, in a move unpopular with US and Australian politicians.
